Death Parade Episode 1 デス・パレード Anime Review

Don't let the Opening Theme fool you

For anyone who saw Death Billboard knew what they were getting into with this anime adaptation. It's a really simple story; When two people die at the same time, to decide whether who will go to Heaven or Hell is decided here at a bar called "Queen Dekim". The two customers who enter play a game varying from billboard to darts to who knows what against each other to decide the winner. The twist? the games implements organs and nerves of the players, example, in darts shown in this episode has a organ's live picture in each square, shoot the organ and depending on where it hits, that part is affected of the opponents'. Sounds really intresting doesn't it? But, it's the Psychological mind games where this series or at least this episodes really shines.

Oh the OP, good troll
The Opening Song, I must say I was confused cause that whole opening sets out a way different mood than what the OVA had established. You see the two Main Characters from the OVA dancing together, also introduced to few other characters who rather look more like bartenders at a Disco. Don't judge the book by it cover? It applies well here.

Going back to the episode, one word, amazing. The animation, the OST is just plain beautiful. The characters are unique and well represented, lets see how well they develop them. The plot in this episode was complex with many twist and turns over the course.

The end
A couple, who were on their honeymoon, die in an accident and though it might look like they really care for each other (and they do, for most part) changes dramatically as the human nature starts to show it's true colors. Husband's suspicions, wife's true face, its all in there! Surprised to see how they could make just a 25 minute episode so mind bogling. At the end of the episode we are introduced to a new character who was not shown in OVA and it seems like from next episode onward there'll be a story development. Overall, it was fun, I like psychological thrillers and this has a lot of potential, hope it builds up on this episode.  Thank you for reading this anime review, have a wonderful day or night wherever you live!
